It doesn’t need to be.
The Beatles sang ,
You say you want a revolution
You can start a revolution – what we call a Remarkable Revolution – and that revolution will fuel higher productivity and profits, it will create higher levels of satisfaction (and lower stress and conflict), and because of those things – increase employee loyalty.
Later in the same famous song the Beatles sang,
You say you got a real solution
I’m going to give you the solution and the tools.
Isn’t revolution or culture change (or any change at all) hard?
How can you say this is going to be “Easy and Fun?”
This revolution is easy because it is about basic human nature. It is about a core principle that we all know, but too often we forget.
Here it is:
Everyone wants to be praised for their efforts and recognized for their results.
We all know this – and have known it for a long time. Even the most cynical, crusty, seemingly self confident person wants to know that what they are doing is valued, meaningful and matters.
But how often do we tell others that what they do matters?
According to Gallup research that is regularly repeated, fewer than one in three people can report any praise from a supervisor in the previous seven days. And yet, when correlated with a positive answer to this question in their surveys: “In the last seven days, I have received recognition or praise for doing good work” it is responsible for a 10% to 20% difference in revenue and productivity. (read that again if you need to).
Would you like a 10-20% increase in revenue and productivity?
And get this too, from the same research: Employees who report that they’re not adequately recognized at work are three times more likely to say they’ll quit in the next year.
Call it the big four – Productivity, Profitability, Satisfaction and Loyalty. And a Remarkable Revolution can fuel all four parts.
And all of it can change with simple, genuine, direct praise for who people are and what they are doing.
So it is easy – you look for the good, and you let people know you saw it.
Easy to do… hard to remember to do.

But what if you could amplify and extend the power of positive feedback and praise, beyond the role of the supervisor or leader?

Here is where the “Easy” part comes in. It starts with frequent hand written notes of thanks and encouragement.
Let me ask you a question.
Do you have, somewhere in your files or in some other special place, a note someone sent you, thanking you for something? I know people who have notes that are many years old. I’ve seen them framed, I’ve seen people pull out file folders, and even if they don’t have physical reminders, everyone I’ve ever asked, can tell me a story (with a tear in their eye or a smile on their face) about a time someone gave them honest appreciation and praise.
